e.g. 3 out of 4 in a test is ¾ × 100 = 75%

January 30, 2008Today we learned about Proper, Improper and Mixed fractions and decimal fractions.
e.g. Proper Fraction ¼
e.g. Improper Fraction 11/8
e.g. Mixed Fractions 5 1/2
e.g. Decimal fraction ¼ = 1 ÷ 4 = 0.25
e.g. Decimal fraction 2 ¾ = 2 + 3 ÷ 4 = 2.75
Decimal fraction to proper fraction
e.g. 0.2 → 2/10 → 1/5
e.g. 0.7 → 7/10
Homework : Ex 4.2 all questions

January 29, 2008Today we investigated the 3 averages
mean, median and mode.
Median – middle value in a data set
AFTER they have been put in order.
e.g. Odd set 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 Even set 1, 2 , (2.5) 3 , 4
Mode – The most frequently occuring number in a data set.
e.g. 3, 7, 8 , 11 , 12 , 8 mode is 8

with and without a calculator.
Without Calculator: find an easy percentage first
e.g. 1%, 10% etc…. then scale as appropriately
Calculator: e.g. 34% of 60 = 34 ÷100 x 60 = 20.4

The hypotenuse ( longest side) is ALWAYS
opposite the right angle
Different forms: a² + b² = c² or (XY)²+(YZ)² = (XZ)²
